A MINISTER has launched an £125,000 appeal to help build a church hall.
The Reverend Keith Phipps, minister at Northallerton Methodist Church, is spearheading a campaign to build a meeting room to cater for 50 people, with two storerooms, toilets, a kitchen and access for the disabled.
It would be built on the site of the former caretaker's cottage and called the Cottage Meeting Room.
"With the changes in legislation for disabled access to public buildings coming into force in 2004, we needed a medium-sized meeting room at ground floor level," said Mr Phipps. "We are also aware that there is a demand within the community and the town for such a meeting room."
The church has raised £50,000 for the development and has been promised £25,000 from the church at circuit level, with further cash pledged from national Methodist funds.
But the rest of the £125,000 will have to be raised through donations. The church is holding a gift day tomorrow from 10am to noon, when people can make donations
