POLICE are warning parents buying motorbikes for their children this Christmas to ensure they carry tags to prevent them being stolen.
Chief Superintendent John Kelly, of Cleveland police, is urging that all machines carry security markings to ensure they do not fall prey to criminals looking for easy pickings.
He said: "It's a simple thing to buy a child's motorbike, or quad bike, but parents should think carefully about security and the place it will be used."
Officers advise permanently marking the bikes and securing them to a ground anchor point in an alarmed shed, or garage
