OUR summer term is full of special activities relating to the curriculum, with every class taking part in an outing that relates to work studied in the classroom.

This year, the early years children visited Saltburn.

They enjoyed using the funicular railway to the pier. They had a picnic in the Italian Gardens and spent the afternoon on the beach, paddling and building sandcastles.

Form one children extended their knowledge of the Victorians when they visited the Timothy Hackworth Museum, in Shildon, and forms two and three learnt more about the Romans when they went on a visit to Segedunum, in Wallsend.

Years four, five and six travelled to Hartlepool to visit the historic quay, where they went aboard the Trincomalee.

l On June 12, years four, five and six went to Hartlepool Historic Quay for their outing. We looked around the fighting ships exhibition where we saw what life was like on board.

After lunch we were able to try out different games children played.

Then we had a look around the Trincomalee, a fighting ship, where we saw cannon and how they were loaded.

We all took a turn on the capstan, but luckily, there wasn't an anchor on the end of it. In the days when the Trincomalee was used, it would have needed about 80 men to haul up the anchor.

Before we went home, we were able to spend our money in the shop. I was so glad that the foot-and-mouth disease did not stop us from going on our trip.
