Saturday saw the first round of the Archbold Trophy with SCA's performance against the Royal the highlight.

In a game that went to extra time the result was in doubt up to the final whistle but the lads of SCA took the tie 3-2.

SCA's goals all came from ace marksman Lee Hammond the highlight of which was a 30 yard chip over the goalkeeper's head. The Royal's brace were scored by Paul Cleary and Sean Campbell.

A thrilling encounter took place between the Greyhound and DGSOB which the Old Boys won by the odd goal in eleven. In a topsy-turvy game which could have gone either way the game was won with a strike deep in to the second half of extra time. The Greyhound scorers were Barry Thompson (2), Andrew Laing, Paul Saxton and Mike Ryan.

Another close encounter which took place between the Otter and Fish and Aycliffe Saints which resulted in a 3-1 win for the Otter. At the break the Saints led 1-0 and were good value for it. However, in the second half the Otter woke up and played some great football and ended up deserved winners. The Otter's goals were scored by Simon Middlemiss, Wayne King and yet another from Billy Fish with Peter Cliff replying.

Nigel Feeney, the Central Borough Supremo, was not a happy man with his team following their elimination by Wheatsheaf Wanderers 2-0. "We were never in the game and too many of our players did not perform" said Nigel. The Wheatsheaf's goals were scored by Craig Chapman.

Another cracking game took place between RA Youth and Hydro which the youngsters won 4-2. After dominating the first half the RA had to dig deep to repel Hydro in the second. RA's goals were scored by Darren Kokes (2), Craig Adamson and Dean Lawson.

Shildon Three Tuns dominated their game against Elm Road WMC and comfortably won 6-2. The Tuns are running into a rich vein of form and at present are a match for anyone. Stefan McGowan, Thomas Lauden, Darren Foster, a brace from Stephen Hall and a superb free kick from Chris Lye were the Tuns scorers with Daniel Plews and Carl Dawson replying for Elm Road.

In the only League game to take place Deepdale and the Navy Club fought out a tremendous 1-1 draw.

The Navy Club's goal was scored by Mark Silvester but the star was Tony Stafford who played out of his skin and his attitude was instrumental.
