A RECORD number of students from Hartlepool Sixth Form College have started their studies at Durham University this year.
The 15 students who won places at the university met the vice-chancellor, Professor Sir Kenneth Calman, at the Students' Union.
College principal Dorothy Lownds said: "Their hard work has paid off and we wish them every success on their programmes."
Richard Taylor, head of the school and college liaison service at Durham University, said: "We want to build on this success and are now introducing a £500 bursary for North-East students who do not have to pay fees because of their low parental income.
