PLANS for a barrack block at Catterick Garrison have cleared the first hurdle.
Planners at Richmondshire District Council decided they would not object to Ministry of Defence proposals to improve facilities for junior ranks at Vimy Barracks.
A two-storey, 48-bed unit is now likely to be built off Scotton Road, while negotiations are under way with North Yorkshire County Council over a wider access road.
However, as the new occupants will be soldiers relocated from elsewhere on the garrison, the building is not expected to generate a significant amount of extra traffic
