Rohm and Haas JOC Hetton Youth League - Herrington, who have won all ten games in the league suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 3-2 to Willington in the Durham County Youth Cup.

The visitors led 3-0 at the interval with goals by Max Hepplegarth, Andrew Morris and Paul Daley but despite a spirited fightback, Herrington could not take the tie into extra time. Darren Liddle and Michael Fletcher scored during the second period but Willington held out for a narrow and exciting victory.

Trimdon, who also have a 100 per cent lead record, had to work hard for their narrow 5-4 success at home to Washington Dunlop. The scores were level at 4-4 and in extra time Paul Wilkinson scored the decisive winning goal. Ian Bickerstaff rifled a hat trick and Trimdon's other marksman was Michael Quinn.

In the League, Lumley scored six times during the second half defeating Springboard 7-2. Craig McManus (4), Shaun Mansfield, John Lidster and Ryan Drummond were all on target for Lumley with David Charlton and John Anderson replying for Springboard.

Jarrow St Bedes were also in scoring form at home to local rivals Hebburn winning 5-1 when Daniel McGinley (2), David Stephenson (2) and Stephen Morton all found the net.

South Moor scored three times in each half when they romped to a 6-0 victory at Lampton Street. Kevin Armstrong and Chris Hewitt both recorded hat tricks.

Sacriston comfortably saw off the challenge of Ryhope when Jeff Hepple scored twice and Andrew Collinson once in a 3-0 win.

Auckland and District Ebac Youth League

Willington under-18s won 3-2 away to Herrington CW juniors in the second round of the Durham County Youth Cup, but they almost let slip a 3-0 interval lead.

Max Appleton gave Willington an early lead with a well-taken penalty. Paul Bailes got the second with a low shot, and Andy Morris scored the third with a good individual goal. Herrington came back strongly in the second half with Darren Liddle and Michael Fletcher on target, but Willington held on for a place in the semi finals.

Bishop Auckland lost 6-4 away to Gateshead Redheugh Boys Club in the same competition. Neil Robinson scored a hat trick for Bishops with Darren Thexton their other scorer. Michael Cook (3), Craig Nesbitt, Daniel Alusoga and Wayne Boone got the goals for the Tyneside lads.

Barnard Castle beat visitors Ferryhill 3-2 to maintain their four point lead at the top of the Auckland and District EBAC Youth League Cup qualifying table. Joe Baum (2) and Rory Edwards scored for the Barney boys, Chris Dixon and Gary Armstrong for the Ferryhill lads.

Second-placed Chilton YC, with two games in hand on the leaders, won 3-2 away to Coundon & Leeholme with goals from Chris Mason, Michael McGowan and Adam Reed. James Hedley and Matthew Moffitt replied for the homesters.

Junior League

Tow Law Town under-16s maintained their position at the top of the third division with a 4-1 victory at home to Cleadon.

With poor underfoot conditions making things difficult for both sides, Tow Law started slowly but gradually started to wear down their opponents. After a goalless first half, Tow Law imposed themselves on the game and ran out comfortable winners with goals from Antony Wood (2), John Jobson and Neil Clark, with Clark scoring an own goal for their opponents.

Dave Best scored a hat-trick for Willington Boys under-13s in their 4-1 victory at home to Redhouse. MoM Lewis Hope was the other Willington scorer.

Willington under-15s gave a battling performance to draw 0-0 at home to Silksworth. Lien Howe and goalkeeper Peter Sewell were joint MoM for Willington.

Northern Under-19 Alliance League Cup

Crook Town juniors won 1-0 after extra time away to Guiseley Town in last week to gain a place in the final eight.

In an extremely hard-fought game the two goalkeepers, Tom Morgan of Guiseley and Crook's Michael Devine, kept the scoreline blank until the 100th minute. Paul Freary slipped in to score at the far post from a rebound after Morgan had saved a shot from Simon Smurthwaite to put Crook into the quarter finals.

Darlington Allstars

The Under-13s were in First Division League action at Cleveland Juniors and, in a fine advertisement for junior football in the area, ran out 6-3 winners. 2-1 down at half-time, the Allstars spirit saw them take the lead early in the second half and retain it for the rest of the match. Man of the Match Nicky Fox struck a memorable hat-trick, substitute Louis Franklin notched a brace of goals and the other came via a Thomas Shann header.

The Under-11 s were at home to Eston Athletic in the Teesside Challenge Cup and won a close match 3-2, with three of the goals coming in the last few minutes. In a performance which made the manager 'proper chuffed', Richard Moorhouse, James Stokell and substitute Ian Smurthwaite all got on the scoresheet and Stuart Bentley was Man of the Match.

The Under-12s were in League Cup action at Whitby Town and progressed through to the quarter-finals with a fine 4-1 victory. The goals came from Jack Henderson and Freddie Huscroft whose hat-trick helped him towards the Man of the Match award.

The Allstars' last remaining representative in the Durham County Cup, the Under-17s, were at home to Peterlee Youth Under-18s and unluckily lost a pulsating game 4-3, with the visitors' winning goal coming in the last two minutes. Allstars gave at least as good as they got throughout the game and deserved to take the match into extra-time. Tommy Wright scored twice and Lee Harding got the other. Craig Winkworth was Man of the Match.

The Under-14s from the Third Division travelled to First Division high-flyers Marton FC and, despite playing 'out of their skins' with every player giving their all for the good of the team, eventually lost 5-0. Man of the Match was Thomas Reeves.

The Under-12 Colts went down 6-1 at Ferryhill Youth in the Challenge Cup. Despite being the better team in the first half, the Colts fell away in the second period.

Allstars' only goal came from Jack Ridley, with Kevin Ditchburn being given Man of the Match.

At seven-a-side level, in the Teesside Alliance Challenge Cup, the Under-10s had an away tie at Belasis Juniors and came through 3-1 after extra -time, Darren Swankie scoring an equaliser with the last kick of normal time. Jack Johns and Jamie Kilday got the others and defender Adam Scarr was an outstanding Man of the Match. In a subsequent friendly, the Under 10s won 4-0 with two goals each from Man of the Match Jack Binks and Lee Gibbon.

At the same level, in the Richmondshire League, the Under-9s were at home to Northallerton and maintained their unbeaten record with comprehensive 5-0 and 8-0 victories. James Humble and Jack Whittaker each got three goals, Bradley Simpson, Danny Thompson and Phillip Wake each got two and Josh Phillips got the other. Phillips and Whittaker were Men of the Matches. The Under-9 Colts were also at home to Northallerton and won 2-0 and 2-1. Karl Hewitt and Thomas Airey each got a brace of goals and Airey and Liam Jarvie were Men of the Matches.

Darlington Spraire Lads

THE under fourteen B team won on the "golden goal" against Sunderland Belford House.

However at half-time Spraire were 2-0 down two goals from Jakeway levelled the score. With both keepers playing excellent the game went to extra time Tarren took the ball through for Oliver to score the golden goal early in extra time.

In the other Durham cup game Spraire Under-17 played Chester-le-Street in a tense game Spraire finaly lost on penalties the score being 1-1 after both normal time and extra time scorer for Spraire was Blenkharn.

In the Teeside league cup at under thirteen Spraire went through 4-1 against Hartburn Juniors with goals from Micheal Lavelle (2) Dale Elgie and on efor man of the match Micheal Ward. At the same age group in the Richmond league Spraire lost 5-1 against Brompton Juniors man of the match went to goal scorer Thomas Chandler.

At under-16 Spraire played Clavering Park in the cup winning 7-3 goals coming from Lyons, Richardson, Pearson, Nichlson and three for Palmer man of the match went to Gillroy.

The under-14 A team went out of the cup to Whitby loosing 3-2 both Spraires goals coming from Healey. The under fourteen C team faired no better loosing to Cleveland Juniors the Spraire goal came from Walls. At under eleven Spraire continued there excellent run of form with a 4-0 defeat of Newton Aycliffe Sports Club in the league cup.

The first goal coming Ditchburn in goal cleared for Ward to lay on a goal for Verity. The second goal came when Martin chipped over the Aycliffe defence for for Coglan to lift over the keeper.

Coglan made it three with a great drive. In the second half Aycliffe applied pressure however Spraire added the fourth and final goal when Ashton cleared for Martin to score the goal of the game by lobbing the keeper. Man of the match went to Ashton.

In mini soccer in the Cleveland league Spraire went to Hartlepool Premier drawing 2-2 goals coming from Ben Turnbull and Micheal Gillander man of the match went to Chris Gaffney. In the following friendly Spraire won 2-0 with goals from Joshaue Newton and Daniel Gordon. At under nine level Spraire lost 3-1 to C oulby Newham the goal came from Jackson Kneeshaw while Brian Todd was excellent in defence
