REVELLERS will be able to party for longer on New Year's Eve if Darlington Borough Council allows pubs to extend their hours.

A special meeting of the council's licensing committee has been called to discuss plans for New Year's Eve opening hours.

Pubs and clubs in the town have had to apply to the committee if they want an extension to their hours.

Humphry's, the St George Hotel and Mardi Gras nightclub have all applied to have their hours extended.

The Mardi Gras wants to stay open until 4am, the George until 12.30am and Humphry's until 3am.

The council sent out letters to all pubs and clubs informing them that they needed to apply for a special licence if they wanted to stay open longer for the New Year celebrations.

Applications for extensions will be considered on Wednesday, at a meeting at Darlington Town Hall, at 4pm
