POLICE are searching for a bogus caller who stole money from a woman in her east Cleveland home.
The incident took place at about teatime on Monday, when a woman claiming to be a home help entered the home of a 58-year-old woman, in Chestnut Grove, Brotton.
Once in the house she asked for a drink and while the occupant of the house was in the kitchen, the woman rifled through a cash tin in the living room and stole about £80 in cash.
The woman, who is thought to be in her thirties, then asked for another drink and helped herself to orange juice from the fridge before she made her excuses and left.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "Although the woman was not hurt, she was left very shaken."
The bogus caller is described as having red shoulder length hair, 5ft 4in, of plump build, and was wearing blue jeans and a burgundy top.
Anyone with information is asked to call PC Claire Evans on (01642) 302226.
