COMPANIES are being invited to compete for a £70m building contract at Britain's biggest Army base.
Eleven firms are being invited to pre-qualify for the scheme at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
The project will provide new living and working accommodation, complete with mess facilities and infrastructure, for 5 Battalion Royal Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and 3 Close Support Regiment.
It will also provide garaging for the heavy tracked vehicles and equipment of 25 Armoured Engineer Squadron based at Ripon.
The project, which follows the Strategic Defence Review, will ultimately provide accommodation for about 600 servicemen and women.
The actual contract for the work is expected to be awarded late next year and the development should be completed and occupied by the end of 2006
