MORE than £280,000 of spare council cash could be used to install gas central heating in tenants' houses.
If Darlington Borough Council's cabinet gives the scheme the go-ahead, the work will be carried out before April in 103 of its houses, at Parkside.
Gas wall heaters will be replaced by full radiator systems, and this will virtually complete the installation programme for council dwellings with inadequate heating. A further £201,720 from the budget will remain unused and it is recommended that members of the cabinet carry this over to next year's figures.
Next year's central heating programme will only include properties with worn-out or inefficient central heating systems.
The cabinet will meet to discuss the proposals on Tuesday.
