IT WAS third time lucky for a housewife whose keen eye helped her win £25,000.

Mary Oxley, 72, of Consett, who won the cash through Littlewoods' Spot The Ball game, said yesterday that this was the third time she had scored a big win.

The former nurse at Shotley Bridge Hospital won a Vauxhall Nova car, worth £4,800, just over 12 years ago and later won £500.

"I am overjoyed, but have no major spending plans," she said.

"My husband, Bill, has wanted to change our ten-year-old car for quite a while. I suppose his wish can now be granted.

"I can't think of anything that we need. We only moved into our new home a year ago."

Mrs Oxley, who has been playing Spot The Ball for 30 years, worked night shift for 17 years at Shotley Bridge Hospital as an auxiliary nurse. Mr Oxleyl was a loader-driver at the former Consett steel works.

The couple have three sons and five grandchildren.
