BRAINY David Woodhead has been rewarded for years of hard work at school by the local Rotary club.
He was presented with the Rose Trophy, which goes to the best A-level results in the district, by the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street.
David not only notched up four A grade A-levels, including maths and physics, but also got one of the top five grades in the country in geography.
Joan Oldfield, his tutor at Chester-le-Street's Park View Comprehensive School, said: "David never bragged about his academic achievements, but he always knew what was required and had a quiet confidence in his own ability."
He also impressed Rotarians with his out-of-school interests.
During his time in sixth form, he helped organise a sponsored expedition to the Lake District, set up an advertising company during Enterprise Week and completed the Community Sports Leadership Award.
