GIRL band Atomic Kitten have taken to Redcar's streets with a clean-living message.

Their faces are to be seen everywhere around the seaside resort as part of an anti-litter campaign.

The trio's pictures adorn 15 big litter bins across Redcar town centre.

The bins are owned by national supplier Trash Media, which, in a deal struck with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, is selling advertising space on the bins.

Councillor Sylvia Szintai, lead member for the environment, said: "The bins have been in place since just before Christmas and we think they're making a difference.

"It represents a good deal for the council and I would hope that local businesses will investigate the prospects of advertising.''

Trash Media contracts manager Les Jones said: "We think there's a double benefit for advertisers - they're helping the environment and the community and they're getting to advertise on the high street at very competitive rates."

Similar schemes are operating in the council areas of Hartlepool, Teesdale and Easington.
