A CAFE has become one of the first independent shops in Darlington to accept euros.

Wade's Coffee House, in Post House Wynd, started accepting the euro on Monday, although as yet no-one has taken advantage of the chance to use the currency.

The restaurant is hoping the move will make it easier for visitors to the cafe.

It also sees it as a way of helping holidaymakers from the town to use up spare currency when they get home.

Shop manager Mark Harrison said: "It is going to be jumped on anyway, so we thought we might as well get in there first.

"We get a fair lot of foreign people in this town and we get our fair share in the shop.

"Also, from our point of view, if someone comes in with euros from their holiday they can spend them here.
