A THIRD person has died following a crash at the weekend.
Ann Taylor, 54, of Ferryhill, County Durham, who had been a front seat passenger in a Rover 218 when it collided head-on with a Peugeot 206 on Saturday evening, died in Middlesbrough General Hospital. She was being treated in the intensive care unit for multiple injuries.
Mrs Taylor's mother, Agnes Franey, 85, from Ferryhill, who was also a passenger, died in the crash, just minutes after she attended Mass in All Saints' Catholic Church, Chilton.
The 20-year-old driver of the Peugeot, Steven Clark, of West Chilton Terrace, Chilton, died from his injuries.
The swimming instructor had been on his way home, travelling on the C36, between Kirk Merrington and Chilton, after taking a lesson at Spennymoor Leisure Centre.
Mrs Taylor's husband, Eric, 58, who was driving the Rover, and an 18-year-old passenger from the Peugeot, are both recovering in hospital.
