GOVERNMENT inspectors have given two-star ratings to a council's services.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has been given the marks for its bidding and management of the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) and for its economic development unit.
It puts the services in the country's top ten per cent, according to the ratings system, and action plans are likely to result in further improvements, said the Audit Commission.
The SRB unit covers 67 projects worth £67m in South Bank, Grangetown, Skelton and west Redcar. The report said that people found staff "very helpful, fair and committed to the effective service delivery".
The economic development service was praised because "it has a real impact of lowering unemployment and increasing investment in the area and users appreciate the service they receive".
The inspectors, from the Best Value inspection service of the commission, said: "We found that the service has clear, ambitious aims that are related to Government policy and meet the major needs of the region, combating unemployment and supporting businesses."
