A COMPANY which claimed its machine could give permanent body hair removal was fined £5,000 yesterday.
Microtechnology International, of Oxford, was charged under the Trade Descriptions Act at Teesside Magistrates' Court after a woman complained to Middlesbrough Trading Standards.
She had been promised permanent hair removal at a local salon but was told, after paying £25 each for six sessions, that the treatment would take up to 35 sessions to work. No one from the company attended the hearing.
District Judge James Prowse was told that the company failed to back up the claims made for the £4,000 machine. He awarded almost £3,000 in costs
