Easington and Durham and CLS booked themselves a Cup Final meeting in the Meredith Trophy when they won their respective semis 4-0.

Easington had the hardest task, when they took on championship contenders Durham HQ, but they were able to field a full strength team and were more than up to the task, scoring two unanswered goals in each half. Paul Footes, Keith Bpwmaker, Martin McArdle and man of the match Dave McKinlay scored a goal each to guide their team into the Final.

Durham and CLS led by a single goal at half-time in their tie with Washington and that was a flukey effort by Paul Jackson. Into the second half, the Durham team took control with Jackson scoring twice more to complete his hat trick. Ellis Hall scored the other Durham goal.

Easington will be looking to repeat their Cup Final win of two years ago over Durham & CLS, but hopefully the match will not be marred by the sendings off that happened on that occasion.

Three League Cup first round ties were played, with Derwentside, Langbaurgh and Darlington being successful. Despite playing the first half with nine men and the second with ten, Derwentside beat Newcastle West 5-2. Derek Sirett gave Derwentside the lead, before goals by Keith Smith and Paul Makepeace put the visitors two one up at the interval.

Both teams missed numerous chances in an open affair. In the second half Chris Knight blasted an equaliser from distance and then both teams again wasted good opportunities before Kevin Maddick put Derwentside Into the lead. Further goals by Sirett and a solo effort by Phil Donnelly secured a second round tie at Darlington. They had won through in the battle of the basement teams, winning 2-1 over Sedgefield. Darlington had scored a goal in either half before Dave Hardman struck with a penalty with ten minutes to go for Sedgefield. It wasn't enough and

Darlo hung on to secure their second round tie. Langbaurgh strolled to victory over ten man Stockton, after a close first half where Matt Lymer had put the home side ahead, Andy Blackett had equalised and Mick Semp had restored Langbaurghs' lead.

As Stockton tired, Langbaurgh cantered to victory, Lymer scoring four more goals, and Paul Gordom and Ali Lancaster scoring one each. They have a home tie with Durham Fire in the next round.
