WENSLEYDALE people who took part in a new "art house" film can see themselves on screen at the Elite cinema, Leyburn, tomorrow.

They were recruited by award winning director Mr Andrew Kotting for This Filthy Earth, a story about subsistence farming which he shot in the Dales last year before the foot-and-mouth crisis hit the area.

Mr Kotting spent several weeks in the area filming his version of the novel La Terre, by the French writer Emile Zola, about two sisters struggling to survive on a poverty-stricken farm they have inherited.

As well as the harshness of their work, the story is about their lives and loves and the bitter rivalries and hatreds that spring up among themselves and their immediate neighbours. The style is experimental, using new technology as well as conventional film.

The Elite is arranging a free showing of the Film Four production for local people who appeared in it tomorrow (2.30). The film can be seen by the public generally today and tomorrow, information from the cinema (01609 624488) after 4pm. The film is on limited release and will not be shown elsewhere in the area.
