A FERRARI driver was recovering in hospital last night after his face was impaled on railings in a crash.

William Moralee, 32, was injured when his car veered on to the golf course in Whitby, North Yorkshire.

His condition was described as poorly but stable in Middlesbrough General Hospital following the accident, which happened at 3.30pm on Friday.

Mr Moralee's passenger, James Sutton, 22, of Ruswarp Bank, Whitby, sustained minor injuries.

Relatives of Mr Moralee, of Sandgate, Whitby, were too upset to talk yesterday.

Details of the crash were released during another black episode on the roads in North Yorkshire, with two people being killed and two others seriously injured in separate incidents.

A woman died and a man sustained chest injuries in a crash on the B1249, near Foxholes, west of Bridlington, at 7.50am yesterday.

The injured man was taken to Scarborough District Hospital, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Another driver was seriously injured in an accident on the A19, at Tollerton crossroads north of York. The crash, just before 8am, involved a cattle trailer and a car.

The male driver of the car was taken to York District Hospital with multiple injuries. The road was closed for more than an hour.

A man was killed on Sunday when he was involved in a collision with a car as he walked on the B1224, between Wetherby and Bickerton, at about 1am. The collision involved a blue Volvo estate car.

The accident occurred just a few miles from the scene of a head-on crash which claimed four lives last week.

Jonathan Forster and Matthew Fox, both 20, and 16-year-old Rochelle Laverack were killed in the crash, near Rufforth, as was driver Gordon Browne, 70.
