A MAN arrested as a terrorism suspect in a police swoop last week has been speaking about his ordeal.

Omar Mohammed and five other men were later released without charge, but Mr Mohammed said he has been left to pick up the pieces.

He said the first he knew of the events, part of the police Operation Icebolt, was when he heard a loud bang on the front door of his home in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough.

"This man asked if there were any Arabs in the house and my wife said she was married to one," he said.

"I came downstairs and was ordered to stand in the middle of the room and not do anything, while they put black bags around my arms and handcuffed me."

Mr Mohammed was then taken away and interrogated for several hours.

He said it was a humiliating experience and he was shocked when he heard that he had been arrested because of information given to the police.

"I was worried about my family and I don't know what is going to happen now," he said.

"I am happy and relieved to be back home, but every morning I am waking up at 7am expecting a knock on the door and I am looking at strange cars."

His wife, Tina, said that she had thought she would never see her husband again.

She said it had taken a terrible toll on the couple's three children, Jamie, 14, Aisha, ten and Samiah, eight.

"We are just trying to put things right, but it should never have happened in the first place," she said.

"The police should be 100 per cent sure before they go into people's homes."

The couple plan to take legal action against the police.
