Motorists told to be vigilant

Police are warning motorists to be extra vigilant after a series of car thefts across Ryedale. Three vehicles have been stolen in the past two days, including a new Ducati motorbike which was taken from Beechcroft Lodge, Slingsby. GUN ARREST: A 36-year-old man was arrested by police in York after allegations that a woman had been threatened with a firearm in Quant Mews, near the city's university.

PLANNING APPEAL: Holdsworth Commodities has launched an appeal against Hambleton District Council's decision to refuse planning permission for a light industrial building at Boroughbridge Gates, Romanby, Northallerton. The council believes the loss of trees and the creation of the access and car park would have a detrimental impact on the area.

ROAD CLOSURE: Part of Aldwark, in York, has been closed to traffic to allow repairs to be carried out to a collapsed brick sewer.

GIVE BLOOD: The National Blood Transfusion Service will be holding donor sessions at Knaresborough House, Knaresborough, on Friday, between 2pm and 4pm and 5pm and 7.30pm.

STABLES REFUSED: An appeal against Hambleton District Council's refusal to grant planning permission for a building for stables and storage in a field off Tollerton Road, Huby, has been dismissed.
