A COMMUNITY association in Hartlepool has a new home thanks to the support of a number of local organisations.
Rift House Community Association now occupies premises at St Columba's Church, in Marlowe Road, after their previous home, Rift House Community Centre, was demolished a couple of years ago.
Hartlepool Borough Council has provided a grant of £4,000 to help equip the new facility, and support has also come from the police, St Columba's Church, the Workers' Education Association and local schools.
The association is at the hub of the community with several courses and events on offer for residents.
It has also made a successful bid of £23,000 to the community safety partnership so that security measures can be fitted to bungalows for the elderly.
Julie Fletcher, community development officer with the council, said: "Tremendous enthusiasm and commitment has been shown by a lot of people in creating new premises for the association.
"This is an excellent facility for the community of Rift House which will provide lots of opportunities for young and old alike."
