DRINKERS will be raising their glasses to unusual ales and off-beat entertainment at a beer festival next week.

The annual Wear Valley Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) beer festival begins next Wednesday, at Bishop Auckland Town Hall,

Among the unusual tipples on offer to be savoured by the expert palate will be Pressed Rat, Warthog and Helles Belles.

Beers produced by independent breweries can be sampled during the day, and each evening there will be live entertainment.

The event starts next Wednesday, when Cloud Nine will perform a succession of surreal, fast-paced sketches called Comedy Bites.

The following evening, solo performer Dave Hardy will take part in a Valentine's folk concert. He will be sharing the bill with the traditional and contemporary sounds of Nebula.

Friday is rock night, featuring live music in the Eden Theatre from North-East bands The Calm, Skeet and Juxtaposition.
