Jarrow chairman Jimmy Kane was "over the moon" at his side's performance against

Redcar Town at the week-end which he described as the best of the season.

"Make no mistake, it was a super effort and a credit to every player who took part. Without doubt, we were the underdogs having won only three times in the League all season.

"But on the day, we more than matched Redcar who have lost just two League fixtures and who are bang in contention for the championship." enthused Kane.

His words were echoed by assistant manager Dave Bell who believes that manager Paul Thu has put together a strong squad in recent months.

"Paul and I decided that we needed to add to our squad and we have brought in some decent players.

"We are just about there and feel we can now give the best teams a good run, exlaimed Bell. Victory over Redcar Town earned Jarrow a place in the semi-finals of the League Cup and the management duo now have their sights firmly on the final.

"It would be great for a club like ours to go all the way. We are not up there with the big guns but steadily we are improving although it would be nice if we

could transform our cup form into the League.

" We have won just three matches but we have played just one League fixture since

we altered our squad so we are hopeful of moving up the table.

"Jarrow finished bottom two years ago and were just one place off the basement last time.

"In both seasons we managed only 21 points and our immediate target is

to pass that figure.

"Currently, we have 15 points but if we continue to play the way we did last week-end we will soon reach our target of points and who knows what might happen in the two cups we are still interested in," added Bell who before joining Jarrow played in the Northern League.

In addition to their involvement in the League Cup, Jarrow will shortly play Stokesley SC in the quarter final of the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup.

"Two massive games are on the horizon but with our strengthened squad we will be

up for the challenge," Bell said.

Birtley Town and Stokesley SC also reached the last four of the League Cup last Saturday.

The tie between Darlington RA and Ferryhill Athletic was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
