Museum to reopen doors

Durham Heritage Centre and Museum, in the former St Mary-le-Bow Church, in North Bailey, reopens for the season on Easter Saturday, March 30, with a new temporary exhibition celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee, called Durham 1952 to 2002, illustrating changes in the city during the Queen's reign, through the lens of the late Des Kelly.

The museum will open on weekends and Bank Holidays in April and May, and daily during June, all from 2pm to- 4.30pm, and daily in July, August and September, from 11am to 4.30pm.

POLICE MEETINGS: Senior police officers will attend a series of public meetings to discuss crime, next week. They are taking place on Tuesday, at Whitburn Community Association, Nicholas Avenue, at 6.30pm, and St Mary's RC Church, Great Lime Road, Forest Hall, at 7pm, and on Wednesday, in Wrekenton Community Centre, High Street, at 7pm and Jesmond Methodist Church, St George's Terrace, at 7pm.

LEAD CENTRE: The North Pennines Heritage Trust reopens its Mines Heritage Centre at Nenthead, just on the Cumbrian side of the county boundary with Durham, at the weekend. The centrepiece, following a £1m investment, is an array of working water wheels. The centre opens daily from Saturday, to October 31, from 10.30am to 5pm.

CAREERS EVENT: Sixty youngsters from schools across Sunderland are taking part in The Next Step, an event to help them decide on their futures, at The Raich Carter Centre, in Hendon, today. It includes workshops by Sunderland Housing, London Electricity, The Navy and Nissan.

Sailing on: A total of 15 boats took to the water and many more were made ready for the start of Derwent Reservoir's racing season, on Sunday. Among the events planned by the reservoir's sailing club are Derwent Regatta Week, from June 1 to 7, the Flying 15 class northern area championships, and the GP14 class North-East championships. SURGERY DATE: A ward surgery is to be held in the Hesleden Community Association Front Street Hesleden on Saturday, March 30, from 10.30am to noon. District councillors in attendance will include Rob Crute, Mark Curry and Jeff Gray. County councillor Alan Cox and parish council representatives will attend.

CHURCH TALK: The Reverend John Wickstead will give a talk on C Hodgson Fowler, Durham, and his Churches, in the Parish Centre, St Giles' Church, at 2pm on April 20.

RAMBLERS WALK: The next walk by the Chester-le-Street Ramblers will be in Prudhoe, on Sunday. Meet at Chester-le-Street Civic Centre at 9.30am.

JUMBLE SALE: St Ives Church in Leadgate, near Consett, stages a fundraising jumble sale at Leadgate Community Centre, on Durham Road, on Saturday, from 1.30pm.
