PEOPLE from around the world will be able to make a virtual visit to a North-East town.
Darlington Borough Council has launched a tourism website that aims to make the town a top destination.
Potential visitors will be able to log on and see for themselves attractions and events that are happening in Darlington, and around the region.
Leading politicians and business representatives, from the town and Tees Valley, attended yesterday's launch at Darlington Town Hall.
Look North presenter John Lawrence pushed the button to bring the system on-line to the world.
The website will include information about events in the town, such as heritage open days, and will also contain information on the Darlington's railway and Christian heritage.
Attractions to be featured include the Summer Community Carnival, the Fireworks and Music Spectacular in South Park, and the Rhythm and Brews beer and music festival.
Northumbria Tourist Board is a partner in the project.
Councillor David Lyonette, cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: "Darlington has much to offer, and is increasingly being recognised as a different and rewarding visitor destination, suitable as a short break or as a high quality base from which to explore further field."
In the future, there are plans to make the website bigger and better with more information on Darlington's facilities.
A promotional package for local tourism businesses is also planned, including an entry in the visitors' guide on the website and in tourist information centre services.
