MIDDLESBROUGH boss Steve McClaren has urged his in-form squad not to get carried away as they enter their Premiership run-in.

Tenth-placed Boro, who have also booked an FA Cup semi-final date with Arsenal on April 14, have lost just three times since the turn of the year.

McClaren's men climbed into the top half of the table for the first time this season when they defeated champions Manchester United last weekend.

But the Riverside chief, whose side entertain Tottenham on Saturday, believes top-flight survival is yet to be achieved - but two wins over the Easter period could do just that.

"Until we reach the mark we are trying to reach we can't rest on our laurels," said McClaren, who believes a win against Spurs and then another at Derby on Monday could prove enough.

"We still have a long way to go. The Man. United result was great but we have to build on that now.

"If we keep performing I can't see many problems, but you never know.

"And you can be sure that we will keep going until we are safe."

Boro currently have 38 points, four short of the total previously mentioned by McClaren as enough to preserve their place among England's elite.

To give his playing staff a boost ahead of Boro's final seven League games it had been thought McClaren would bring in some new blood before today's 5pm transfer deadline.

The former Manchester United No 2 has been linked with moves for wingers Quinton Fortune and Julio Alvarez and a renewed link with Leicester midfielder Muzzy Izzet, but any deals would have to be completed quickly.

Out-of-favour Boro striker Dean Windass could be moving out of the Riverside after he revealed he is available for transfer.

The ex-Bradford City man, linked with Leicester, West Brom and Hull in recent months, has failed to command a regular starting place.

And the 32-year-old said: "The boss has been very honest and told me I can leave.

"I hope I can convince someone to sign me because I'm 32 and need to be playing."

Midfielder Jonathan Greening is in a race to be fit for the clash with Tottenham.

The 23-year-old suffered a knock on his hip at Old Trafford and has only been doing light training in the gym this week.

Meanwhile, coach Steve Harrison has heaped praise on goalkeeper Mark Crossley after he put pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal. The Welshman, who kept nine clean sheets in 15 full games when he deputised for injured number one Mark Schwarzer, could have moved on a free transfer when his current deal runs out in June.

Crossley was disappointed at being left out of the Boro side after Schwarzer's return to fitness.

But Harrison told the official Boro website: "Mark Crossley was unfortunate that he didn't get the nod. But it was very, very close.

* Boro keeper Marlon Beresford is expected to have his loan move at Burnley extended. Turf Moor chief Stan Ternent is hoping to keep Beresford until the end of the season. Beresford is due back at Boro after Burnley's trip to Portsmouth on Monday.
