A CHARITY dinner organised by Northallerton Inner Wheel Club at Romanby Golf and Country Club raised £320 for the Marie Curie cancer appeal.

President Gladys Craven has thanked all those who supported the event for their generosity. After-dinner speaker was Peter Barron, editor of The Northern Echo.

WALK THE WALK: A guided walk around Richmond is on offer to visitors on Monday. Anyone who would like to take part is asked to meet at the town's Tourist Information Centre, in the Friary Gardens, Victoria Road, at 2.15pm. For more information call (01748) 850252.

FIGHTING TALK: David Hogg will talk about the Battle of the Standard when the Northallerton and District Local History Society meets on Tuesday, April 9. Scottish and English forces clashed just north of Northallerton in 1138, and Mr Hogg will summarise the events during his address in the town's library, from 7pm.

BANK'S BOOST: Staff from Barclays Bank in Northallerton, have been planting trees as part of their annual charity effort. They planted daffodil bulbs outside the sheltered housing complex in Priory Close, in November last year and recently returned to add three weeping cherry trees to the display.

ON THE BALL: A cancer charity's fundraising ball at Harrogate's Majestic Hotel, on Saturday, April 20, has sold out a month ahead of the event. Cash from the event will go to the Marie Curie Cancer Appeal.

CHARITY CONCERT: the Carol Andrew Singers will perform a concert in aid of Richmond St Mary's Church Organ Restoration Fund next month. Tickets for the show, to be held at the church at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 13, cost £5 at the door.

JUBILEE PARTY: Villagers in Topcliffe are planning a golden jubilee party to mark the Queen's 50th anniversary, to be held in The Angel car park. Attractions will include a bouncy castle, a clown and a singer.
