England coach Sven Goran Eriksson last night refused to be drawn on speculation over his relationship with TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson.

Facing the Press for the first time since reports of the supposed affair surfaced, he insisted: "My private life - I prefer to have that private."

Eriksson, at a London press conference to unveil a World Cup suit, was responding to the question: "We just wondered who your first choice selection was - Nancy or Ulrika?"

The 54-year-old Swede failed to suppress a smile as he answered, but he said he was not going to discuss his private life now, or in the future.

Both he and Jonsson have remained tight-lipped over the weekend during a welter of speculation about their relationship.

"It has not been easy these last three or four days, but I have never, ever intended to talk about my private life," said Mr Eriksson.

"I've not talked about it in the past, I won't talk about it today and I won't talk about it in the future."

But asked later if he had any problem with the accuracy of the stories in the press over the past few days, he said he would have said if he did.

Asked whether he loved his girlfriend, Nancy Dell'Olio, he added: "You will see. You are parked outside my house."

Meanwhile, 34-year-old Jonsson, speaking to reporters over the intercom at her home in Berkshire just said: "I have nothing to say."
