Plans to amalgamate Peterlee's Eden Hall infant and junior schools into one primary school have attracted no objections from the public during the statutory two-month period following the publishing of public notices about the move. The plans, which are due to take effect in September, will allow Durham County Council to get rid of surplus places at both of the existing schools.

PAIN GROUP: The Durham branch of Action on Pain will hold a meeting in Committee Room 3a, County Hall, Durham, on Tuesday, May 7, at 7pm. Nicky Springford, clinical psychologist in the pain clinic at the University Hospital of North Durham, will be the guest speaker. Everyone is welcome.

FLOWER POWER: Peterlee and District Flower Club will hold an open meeting on Wednesday, in the Shotton Hall Banqueting Suite, Peterlee, starting at 7.15pm. Pass issue: Pensioners and disabled people in the Chester-le-Street district with surnames N to Z can renew their free concessionary bus passes today at Chester-le-Street Civic Centre, Newcastle Bank, from 9am to noon and between 1pm and 3.30pm.

Photo show: A display of photographs and memorabilia will be held in St Andrew's Church Hall, Blackhall, tomorrow, from 9.30am to 7pm and on Saturday from 9.30am to 2pm. Admission is free and refreshments will be on sale.

Lecture date: The fourth Michael Vasey Memorial Lecture will be given by the Very Reverend Richard Giles, Dean of Philadelphia and author of Re-pitching the Tents, on Monday, at 7.30pm in The Leech Hall, St John's College, South Bailey, Durham. The lecture is called Process for Pilgrims.

EXCHANGE VISIT: Twelve young people from Sunderland's twin town of Essen, in Germany, have returned home after completing an exchange visit to the city. They worked at the T Mobile call centre, Sunderland Careers Service, Sunderland Tourist Information Centre and Sunderland Social Services as part of a European Work Exchange Programme.

APPEAL SUCCESS: The Durham City branch of The Royal British Legion would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of its Poppy Appeal 2001. A total of £10,600 was raised.

Rotary service: A service celebrating the work of British Rotary Club and Inner Wheel members locally, nationally and internationally, will be held in Durham Cathedral on Saturday, May 4.

Bus surgery: Bus operator Go North East held a surgery in Hetton-le-Hole for passengers to give their views on services. The company said people had provided "some positive comments" that it would use to improve its services.
