THE ARMY has hit a fund-raising target with a clay pigeon shooting event.
The open event, organised at the Marne Barracks, Catterick, North Yorkshire, raised more than £1,000 for The Neurofibromatosis Appeal, which funds research into a condition which causes tumours to form in the nervous system.
The annual event was organised by Warrant Officer Tony Masters, senior recruiting officer at the Bishop Auckland Army Careers Information Office.
He said: "There is no known cure for neurofibromatosis. One of the sergeants here has a wife who suffers from it and he was struggling to make the money for the charity, so I said I would arrange this shoot. He is hoping that raising the money might fund some research that could help find a cure."
The next clay pigeon shoot, which will be open to everyone, will be held at Catterick on Sunday, May 26. It will raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund.
