DURHAM have named 20-year-old Darlington scrum half Rob Stewart as their captain for Saturday's County Championship match against holders Yorkshire at Wharfedale.

The Barnard Castle School product, who has played for the senior England Sevens squad, will be making his senior county debut, along with his clubmate, prop Dan Miller.

Durham have also drafted in New Zealander Jamie Connolly, who played in the Premiership for West Hartlepool and returned to the club this season.

Also making their debuts are Middlesbrough winger Wes Henry plus locks Chris Webb and James Houghton.

Durham: David Glendenning (Darlington), Stephen Jones (Darlington Mowden Park), Jamie Connolly (West Hartlepool), Craig Lee (Darlington), Wes Henry (Middlesbrough), Kevan Oliphant (Mowden Park), Rob Stewart (Darlington, capt), Phil Lancaster (Darlington), Tasi Tuhana (Blaydon), Dan Miller (Darlington), Chris Webb (West Hartlepool), James Houghton (Blaydon), Darren McKinnon (Mowden Park), Martin Howe, Del Lewis (Darlington)

Replacments: Andrew Foreman (Blaydon), Ian Dixon (Blaydon), Colin Thwaites (Durham University), Dan Osleton (Darlington), Brett Cullinane (West Hartlepool), Stewart Hind (Hartlepool), Tim Sawyer (West Hartlepool).

* Darlington and Houghton will share the Durham County Clubs Under 15 trophy after drawing the final 7-7 at the weekend. In the Under 16s event Darlington beat West Hartlepool 10-8

The Humphrys Cup final (under 18s) between Darlington and Gateshead will be held tonight at Houghton.

* Jonny Wilkinson could be asked to answer an England mercy call and face the Barbarians at Twickenham on May 26.

Manager Clive Woodward is due to announce his squad today and has a major fly-half selection poser ahead of the game, which is supposed to act as a warm-up for the summer tour to Argentina.

Woodward has pledged to give all the England stars involved in last summer's Lions series the summer off. That includes Wilkinson, who has already gone past the suggested 32 match maximum for the season which forms part of the agreement between the RFU, its elite clubs and their players.

However, Woodward's plans for the Barbarians encounter have been thrown into disarray by Leicester and Sale, who have advanced into the finals of the Heineken Cup and Parker Pen Shield, with both games due to be held on the same weekend as the England match.

While Leicester's success could have been anticipated, Sale's was less predictable and it will rob Woodward of the services of Wilkinson's usual stand-in Charlie Hodgson.

The Heywood Road stand-off is a certainty for the Test side in Argentina, but without him Woodward is short of options.

Wilkinson's Newcastle team-mate Dave Walder played all three Tests on last summer's tour to North America, but has missed the past two months with a hamstring problem. Henry Paul is also pencilled in for the Argentinian trip but after losing his place in the Gloucester side recently is hardly the ideal candidate to face a Barbarians team which will include the likes of Jonah Lomu, Jason Leonard and Braam van Straaten.

The only other options would appear to be Orrell's Phil Jones, who lacks top flight experience, Iain Balshaw, who is finding his form after a switch of positions at Bath, and Wasps' Alex King, who has been in fine form recently but was discarded completely after falling behind Walder in the pecking order last summer.

Only Balshaw realistically fits the bill but Woodward would probably prefer to bring him back into the England fold in his preferred full-back berth.
