Crathorne and Kirby Sigston, who both recorded big wins at the weekend, are jointly top of the table.

Crathorne saw off the challenge from Chopgate by nine wickets after restricting their opponents to 142 for eight which included 49 by Lane. Blench took five for 59 and Leng had three for 67. When Crathorne replied they were indebted to Mooney, who carried his bat for 69 and Marshall (48no).

Kirkby Sigston had 90 runs to spare when they entertained Broughton. When Kirby Sigston made first use of the wicket they a romped 212 for seven which included a half century by D Thompson, 37 from J Thompson and 34 by Lowther.

Blaydan took five of the seven wickets to fall 78 runs and in reply Broughton and Kirby were pegged to 122 for nine including 48 by A Robinson, batting at number three. Both Clark and Cowton took four wickets in the Kirby Sigston attack.

Ingleby Greenhow are bottom of the table and they lost for the third successive time when Maltby ran out nine victors.

David Covell captured six for 22 runs in 12.5 overs as the home team managed just 81 from 26.5 overs.

Maltby needed just 14 overs and conceded just one wicket reaching their modest target of 82. Martin Barber hit three boundaries in 20 but it was Simon Close who was the match winner, giving an innings of 46 including a couple of sixes and five boundaries.

Hutton Rudby just had the edge over Kildale by a narrow eight runs margin. Required to score 158 Kildale were all out for 149 after losing three early wickets, they recovered through Corcoran with 45 and later Pearson added 33.

Coombes claimed six for 54 and cook three for 54 for Hutton Rudby who batted first ended on 157 for six. Opening batsman Greaves contributed 37, Patterson 25 and Q Hughes 34. For Kildale Boughty was the main wicket taker with 68.

Stafford Place had one wicket in hand over East Harlsey. The visitor's total included a fine innings of 87 by G Hodgson and for Stafford Place Graves took four for 53. In reply Stafford Place were indebted to Graves for his innings of 52 and for his East Harsley Willie returned four for 52 and Mould three for ten.

Thimberly made the useful total of 190 for nine at home to Swainby. Garbutt top scored with 83 and Cleary added 32 while for Swainby both Clemmitt and Leather took three wickets apiece.

Despite an opening innings of 37 by Kirk and 21 from Leather batting at number three Swainby were all our for 127 as Ward, Pearson and Daniel all captured three wickets.

Roseberry Group North East Durham League

East Rainton had no difficulty seeing off the challenge from Benwell Hill once they bowled out the visitors for 62. Roy Richardson took four for 22 in 14 overs, four of which were maidens and Lindsey Fleming had four wickets for five runs from the 13 deliveries he sent down. The Benwell Hill innings lasted 33.1 overs and in contrast, East Rainton took 12.5 overs to make 65 without loss. Neil Matthews had one six and four boundaries in 38 not out and Gordon Steel carried his bat for 26 with four fours.

Washington too comfortably won at home to Medomsley who battled through 43 overs scoring 110 all out which included 32 by Dixon with four boundaries. Kevin Bowes claimed four wickets for 36 runs in 12 overs and Plendar, Hebron and Tither shared the other six wickets.

Replying Washington reached a winning score losing four wickets in 30.4 overs as John McIlvaney (32) and Tither (36no) formed a good partnership. Both batsmen recorded five boundaries.

Sunderland Hospitals made 115 at home to Newton Aycliffe and then bowled out their opponents for 110. Mitchie had four for 23 and Davison three for 30 for Aycliffe and although Mitchie batting at No 3, remained undefeated on 49, Aycliffe were 11 runs short of a winning margin. Glen Shaw was in excellent form for Hospitals taking six wickets for only 38 runs.

Coundon defeated Belford House by 40 runs. Ramrattan (37) top performed with the bat when Coundon posted 140 all out. Duncan Forrest and Spurs both took four wickets for Belford House who in reply were dismissed for 100 as Murray returned four for 27, Tobin three for 12 and Ramrattan three for 24.

Colin Davison opened the Wearmouth inning scoring 37 and Lang contributed 30 to a total of 145 for eight against Littletown at Carley Hill. Strong captured four for 28 in the Littletown attack and when the visitors replied they won losing seven wickets as Valance top scored with 72. Morgan, with three for ten and Murphy three for 41 were the pick of the Wearmouth bowlers.

In division two Wearmouth also went down when they visited Simonside. The visitors were all out in 20 overs for 69 with Paul Haines claiming three for 36 from eight overs and Paul Thompson two for 15 in his ten overs stint.

Responding Simonside coasted home without conceding a wicket as Mark Thompson scored five fours in 28 and Paul Thompson recorded six boundaries in an unbeaten 31.

Washington lost by three wickets at Tantobie despite making a healthy 185 all out of which Rayner scored 79 opening the innings. Bellamy took half the wickets returning the excellent figures of five for 27 and when Tantobie went into bat Fallon did even better with the ball finishing with the analysis of six for 53. Bell, however, proved to be the match winner and going in at number three he carried his bat for an unbeaten 70.

Belmont defeated North Bitchburn by 35 runs. Batting first the home side reached 116 for 44.5 overs with Will Hay striking three boundaries in 34. Tennick had four for 74 and Graham Lee five for 31 for North Bitchburn who responded with 81 all out. Peter Welsh returned the outstanding figures of six for 42 from 14 overs including three maidens and Dale Peacock had four for 36 in his 13 overs spell. He bowled four maiden overs.

Hunwick ended on 162 all out at Whiteleas with Urwin making 45 and Keegans 26 while Pratt added a late 24. Hale and Baxter each took four wickets for Whiteleas who struggled to 71 all out as Pratt captured six wickets for 40 runs and Morris took four for 21.

Burnhope ended with a huge total of 302 for nine and then dismissed Plawsworth for just 74. Runs flowed from Bates (36), Morrison (51) and Johnson with a top scoring 81 before Alan Selway carried his bat for 36. Karl Pring was the pick of the Plawsworth bowlers with three for 82 and when Plawsworth batted they found the bowling of Spark (6-34) and Gray (3-37) too much.

Bearpark sent Kibblesbrough crashing to 43 all out as Lishman returned five for six and Smith took four for 31. When Bearpark batted first they made a useful 141 which included 36 by Parker and a number of useful additions, the most notable being from Hewitt with 27. Dent had the splendid analysis of seven for 66 but still finished on the losing side.

Foster's Tyneside Senior League Under-18 Cup

Blaydon sent Chopwell crashing to 15 all out and went on to win losing one wicket. David Bailey claimed three wickets for a single run from the three overs he bowled and Gary Stewart had two for four also from a three overs spell.

In contrast, the runs flowed when Lanchester entertained Crookhall and lost by one run.

Batting first Crookhall recorded 102 for five with runs from Ringer (28), Stewart (26) and Johnson (23no). Mark Ramshaw picked up two wickets for ten runs in five over and Kevin Dixon had two for 17, also from a five overs spell.

When Lanchester replied they posted 101 for two and amid great excitement Crookhall just edged the result. Mark Ramshaw almost snatched victory for Lanchester finishing undefeated in a fine innings of 53 and in the Crookhall attack Richardson had figures of two for 33.

An unbeaten 29 by Craig Lloyd was the top score for Shotley Bridge who reached 76 for four and replying Whickham totalled 76 for five and the match ended in a tie which will need to be replayed.

Mark Gray with 47 was in top form for Swalwell who totalled 96 for eight at home to Ryton. Noel Allnut claimed three wickets for 20 runs and Bates took four for 29 in the Ryton attack.

Allnut then starred with the bat contributing 34 to the Ryton total of 79 for seven. Alistair Wake took three wickets for 16 runs and Peter Scott two for 14 for Swalwell.

After reaching 90 for the loss of two wickets which included 41 not out by Andrew Britten and 26 from Andrew Edwards Greenside went down by eight wickets at Consett for whom Halliday scored 37 not out and Steward 20.

Burnopfield reached the next round with a ten-wicket success over Lintz. Mark Stoneman carried his bat for 40 out of the Burnopfield total of 66 for none and batting first Lintz totalled 65 for seven of which David Dolan scored 33. Lawrence Davey was the pick of the Burnopfield attack with figures of three for 16 in five overs.
