Wear Valley Ladies

Crook Mill House celebrated their runners-up spot in style when they only dropped one point to the visiting Crook White Swan. However, despite this good finish, they still ended up six points short of the leaders, Crook Golden Fleece, who still have a match to play.

The leading individual scorers were Pat Davis 140 and Sue Graham 134 for the Three Blue Bells, Gillian Thompson 140 and Kirsty Dixon 134 for the Mill House and Carol Haygarth 134 for the Royal Sun.

The only match in the Preliminary Round resulted in defeat for D. Cullen and C. Cullen (Consett Victoria) against the visiting D. Conroy & T. Warren (South Moor Excelsior). There were 63 byes.

Weardale Ladies League

The singles knockout was played to semi final stage at Black Bull and Mill Race, Wolsingham. At Black Bull mother and daughter June and Pam Barron of Blue Bell B met in the semi final and victory went to mother Pam 2-1 to see her through to the final.

Julie Lonsdale of Rookhope A met Elaine Swan of Pack Horse in the Mill Race semi. Elaine Swan won 2-1 to go through to the final at Rookhope WMC.

Forcett and District Ladies League

The Annual Presentation evening was held at Croft Spa Hotel when Boro's Gianluca Festa presented the trophies.

The Otter & Fish, Hurworth retained the Singles League with King William B, Barton finishing runners-up.

The Otter & Fish also won the Doubles League, Nominated Singles League. The King William. B again finished runners-up.

The Hazel Burn four-a-side knockout trophy raised £130 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Marie Curie, Richmond. This seasons winners the Otter and Fish who were victors over the King William B.

Sue Lawson and Emma Dawes of the King Williarn B won the Pairs knockout competition. June Mannion and Catherine Diduca from the Otter & Fish were runners-up.

The nine-a-side knockout final went to the deciding leg, the Otter and Fish coming back from 4-1 down to beat Catterick Social Club 5-4 in a thrilling final.

The League's Individual Champion was Cliff Marshall from the Farmers Arms, Scorton who beat Chris Wilson from the Killinghall, MSG.

Cleveland County

In the last match of the season Cleveland entertained Bedfordshire at Visions, Billingham Green.

The ladies "B" were on first, but Cleveland didn't get the start they were hoping for, Jean Atkinson (14.60) lost 3-1, Marj Gunn (16.58) was on next and lost 3-2 had a nice checkout of 104, but then double trouble proved costly. But far from being down and out the ladies fought back Pat A Smith (16.66) won 3-1, Molly Pywell (15.98) won 3-2, Lady of the Match Karen Helmore (17.28) won 3-0 and so did Jean Hagan (15.18) to give Cleveland a 4-2 win. This win meant the Ladies had won their division.

Next on, the Men's "B" Charlie Copeland (23.24) won 3-1, it was level when Mak Chahal (19.23) lost 3-1, but then Mark Durham (24.35) won 3-1, Man of the Match Jim Bannister (27.33) won 3-0 including a 130 checkout and Jim Dunlop (22.26) won 3-1. Dennis Coleman (23.03) lost 3-0 to give a lead at the interval of 4-2. Cleveland's lead was increased when Allan Galley (23.48) won 3-0 and Carl Smith (22.84) won 3-2. Mick Hornsey (19.17) lost 3-2 after being two legs up. But then Brian Boulton (23.53) won 3-1 and Glynn Neads (25.47) won 3-0. In the last match Richie Corner (23.42) lost 3-1. This gave Cleveland an 8-4 victory and also the division winners.

Sunday started with the ladies A, and what a good start Cleveland had. Jackie Allison (15.46) won 3-1, Lady of the Match Julie Sorby (20.50) won 3-1, Babs Evans (17.68) won 3-0 and Claire Stainsby (17.76) won 3-1, Pat J Smith (15.63) lost 3-1 but then Vee page (18.81) won a very exciting match 3-2. To ensure a 5-1 win, and second in that division.

The men's "A" started well.

Man of the Match Tony Eccles (31.98) won 3-0, Glenn Moody (27.11) won 3-1, Gary Stephens (27.23) won 3-1 and Glen Durrant (25.47) won 3-0. On his promotion to the A team Paul Skelton (21.45) lost 3-0 but then Mark Eccles (23.86) won 3-0. To give Cleveland a 5-1 at the interval.

But how things change. Paul Winspear (23.49) lost 3-2, an unlucky Kenny Dobson (25.55) lost 3-2, Rob Grundy (20.17) lost 3-0, Col Johnson (24.22) lost 3-1 and Neil Young (19.95) lost 3-1, so Cleveland needed the last match to get a draw and Simon Craven (27.33) duly obliged when he won 3-0.

Overall Cleveland won 23+3 bonus to 13.

The win meant Cleveland have won promotion to division 2 as Champions.

Durham County

Durham made the long journey down to Sussex and the town of Newhaven to play top of the table and unbeaten Sussex.

Things did not start too well for the B team ladies going down 4-2 with wins for Margaret Stewart 3-2 and lady of the match 16-99 av and Sandra Cairns 3-2 16-43 av and a summary of the season must do better next season.

The men's B team games Sussex are top of the B team table but Durham men acquitted themselves well with a 6-6 draw and wins for Tony Nixon 3-1 19-52 av, John Ward 3-0 22-10 av, Ray Scott 3-1 22-67 av, Robert Douthwaite 3-1 22-47 av and man of the match George Davison 3-0 24-24 av and Gary Storey 3-2 24-18 av and a summary of the season. The same effort next season and they can go closer to the title.

With the games at 10-8 to Sussex it was into Sunday and the A team games, Durham A team ladies acquitted themselves very well with a 4-2 win, the wins came from Dawn Winn 3-1 14-94av and Pauline Kerrigan 3-2 16-91 av.

Lady of the match was Sharon Haywood 3-0 20-04 av and Nancy Richardson 3-1 15-87 av. Nancy has gone the full season unbeaten 9 out of 9. Well done Nancy and a summary good. Then came the A team men.

Sussex were top of the men's table and unbeaten. That didn't last long with Durham men thrashing them 8-4 with wins for David Prins 3-2 27-32 av then came team Captain Phill Nixon 3-0 27-83 av, James Ashett 3-2 24-90 av, John Preistly 3-1 25-91 av, Doug McCarthy 3-2 23-74 av, Jeff Sneath 3-0 26-37 av, Roy Brown 3-2 25-46 av, Paul Bambrough 3-1 21-52 av and an overall win for Durham of 20-16.

Durham A team men just missed out on being A team champions and the summary of the season overall is this only one defeat all season and two draws and six wins with all the six wins back to back so let's start next season like we finished this.
