CHAMPAGNE and cocktails have been replaced by the best Yorkshire bitter at the world's most glamourous movie festival.

Stars such as Cameron Diaz and Sharon Stone are being offered a pint of Black Sheep from the Masham brewery as they mingle with the film elite in Cannes.

The Black Sheep brewery decided to lend its support to the French film festival when it learned that the Yorkshire Screen Commission would be at the event promoting the region's films and actors.

More used to supplying The Woolpack in Emmerdale than the likes of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, the brewery offered to send some samples and merchandise to France so the screen commission could enjoy a taste of home.

Pat Green, from the brewery, said: "We were more than happy to send some beer out to Cannes. We thought it would be good for the people from the Yorkshire Screen Commission to be reminded of home and then they asked for some merchandise to show their clients.

"It's great to think that some of the top film stars might be enjoying our beer out in France."

As well as the possibility of gaining some famous fans, the brewery is hoping its promotion at Cannes will help the Yorkshire economy, which was devastated by the foot-and-mouth crisis.

Mr Green said: "If people at such a big event can see our products and what Yorkshire is all about, it could help to revive things. At this point in time, any publicity we can get for our product and for the region is a good thing."
