England have been held to a 1-1 draw in Seogwipo by World Cup co-hosts South Korea.

England went ahead after 26 minutes when Emile Heskey put Paul Scholes clear and, though his shot was blocked by the legs of goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae, the ball fell kindly for Michael Owen.

South Korea managed to equalise when Park Ji-Sung ran free of Teddy Sheringham to head home a corner from Lee Chun-Soo on 51 minutes.

Although the England camp would have perferred to beat the team that crushed Scotland five days ago Sven-Goran Eriksson has used the match to assess the the Far East conditions and to test players and experiment with different formations.

One bonus that the England coach took from the match was the performance of Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargeaves. Although Hargreaves gave Erriksson a scare late on in the match when he limped off injured only to return to the action after treatment, his performance must have made his claim on a position in the side stronger.

Although England have been given a pre-World Cup warning Middlesbrough boss Steve McLaren believes that Sven-Goran Eriksson's coolness could be the key to England's success in the World Cup.

Before this morning's warm up match with South Korea Mclaren admitted that although the England boss has been plagued with injury problems he has never lost his temper in the dressing room since he became manager 14 games ago.

"His calmness in every situation is one of the advantages he has. The players appreciate the relaxed atmosphere", he said.
