Darlington and District League

The weather played havoc with the programme and only two games went ahead in Division A and one in Division B.

Barton had 46 runs in hand when they hosted Ingleton in a game which reduced to 30 overs a side.

Even so, Barton reached 188 for five as David McAfee hit one six and eight fours in 70 and his opening partner Jimmy Bell contributed 34. The pair had an opening partnership of 99 and afterwards Miller contributed 23 and Kearney 25.

Ingleton used four bowlers in their attack and Laundy was the most successful with two for 56. Gamack and Wood each took a wicket and one batsman was run out.

Replying Ingleton had a good second wicket partnership between Stuart Laundy (47) and Stuart Dawson (51). In the end they managed only 142 for five. Ray Headon returned the best bowling analysis of the match with four for 41 from 15 overs.

Barningham managed to stage their game with Cockerton and were rewarded with a victory. When they made first use of the wicket Barningham produced 137 for six which included 60 with one six and six boundaries by opener Graham Newton. Scott Walker added 32 with three sixes and one four and for Cockerton Lethbridge claimed three wickets for 37 runs and Farrow took two for 33.

When they went into bat Cockerton were all out for 118 after opener Tomlin (22) and Lee (20) had given the side a reasonable send off. Dean McGarr was among the wickets for Barningham and in 14.5 overs, five of which were maidens, he claimed six wickets for 30 runs. Adam Bellwood was also in form and from ten overs he had four wickets for 46 runs.

In Division B there was victory for Middleton-in-Teesdale who restricted visitors King James to 67 for eight in their restricted 25 overs innings. Opening batsman Crowe batted throughout for King James and remarkably they finished unbeaten on 43 out of the low total of 67. David Watson was the bowler who caused King James their problems and in ten overs, half of them maidens, he returned the magnificent figures of six for nine.

Batting first Middleton ended with a healthy 148 for one on the board from 25 overs. Opener Andy Coatsworth batted throughout hitting five fours in an unbeaten 61 and his opening partner Neil Watson contributed 32. David Watson maintained the good work and he was still there at the end with Coatsworth unbeaten on 47.
