Durham and Cleveland SRA, The Durham and Cleveland Men's first team having been promoted last year finished runners up in Division 2

this season and have been promoted to Division 1 for next season. Of particular note, Kevin Carr was awarded Player of the Division.

The Durham and Cleveland Mens 2nd Team finished runners up in Division 5A losing in the final match of the season by the slenderest of margins. The Team also won through to the Principia Cup Final and despite having 7 match points lost 3-2, again finishing runner up. Considering that 45 Teams initially entered this competition this was an incredible performance by the Team.

Of particular note Dave Middlemast was awarded Player of the Division.

The Durham and Cleveland Ladies Team won Division 2 and hence promotion to Division 1 for next season. Pam Row was awarded Player of the Division.

Northumbria

Whilst the club has traditionally entered all its teams in Durham and Cleveland, this was the first year any teams were entered in Northumbria. The opposition was therefore an unknown quantity and proved to be of a high standard, so the success enjoyed is all the more impressive.

The Northumbria Mens 1st Team won Division 3 and hence promotion to Division 2 for next season.

The Northumbria Mens 2nd Team finished mid table in Division 6, a most impressive result considering this team consisted of a number of players who had little or no exposure to team squash until this season.

Junior Squash

Ithe Squash Club is linked to Junior Squash which is currently being actively pursued at two levels. There are three Teams entered within Durham and Cleveland and the Club provide an introduction and initial coaching with a Sunday Morning session for beginners.

The Junior Under 13 Team. This is an age group where players improve quickly and that was demonstrated throughout the course of the season.

The Junior Under 15 Team played finished 2nd in the League. This age group are beginning to show signs of future adult team players and are refining their skills. The Club has great hope this team next season.

INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT

John Shaw (who finished runner up in 2001 in the Mens over 60's British Open Championship) continues to play squash not only for the Durham and Cleveland Mens 2nd Team, but also represents England at national level.

CLUB SUMMARY

The Club would like to extend its thanks to Chester-le-Street District Council and its employees for the level of support provided. Whilst there has been a level of success in the past, this undoubtedly is the most successful season enjoyed by all of the teams, hence the awards. This is in no small measure a reflection of the District Councils proactive approach towards the needs of the Club.

The commitment the Club has shown towards Junior coaching can only add value and develop future players with the abilities of todays Team members, providing for squash in the future. The achievements of Junior Under 15's is no less significant than that of the Mens and Ladies Teams.

Thankyou to all players for your support, and the effort that has been put in to attain this,

Paul Gibson, Club Treasurer
