TWO young men whose Saturday night out in Harrogate ended in arrest were warned by the town's magistrates yesterday to beware the dangerous cocktail of alcohol and testosterone.

Court chairman Hugh Simpson told Gary Hutchinson, 18, and Mark Rigby, 19, their antics had made the centre of Harrogate an unpleasant place to be at midnight on February 10 and the court took a dim view of that.

"Harrogate town centre can be a dangerous place, and the cocktail of alcohol and testosterone can also be a dangerous one," said Mr Simpson.

Hutchinson, of Lark Lane, Ripon, was fined £150, with £69 costs, after admitting us-ing threatening behaviour. A charge of affray was dropped.

Rigby, of Smithfield Close, Ripon, was fined £150, with £69 costs, for affray, and a further £150 for assault on Paul Aldis.

Mr Simpson told Hutchinson: "You have a caution for a similar incident. Use this as a warning not to get involved in this kind of incident again, especially after seven or eight pints of lager."

Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, said police were called to the Po Na Na late-night bar in King's Road to deal with an incident which had been captured on CCTV. It began when a man who was barred was refused entry by doormen.

She said as he walked away with friends, who included Mr Aldis, Rigby and Hutchinson were in a group heading towards the bar. It appeared that there was a head-butt by one of the group which started a scuffle during which Mr Aldis was punched by Rigby before Hutchinson chased after him seeking a fight.

A third man, Jordan Robson, 18, of Delamere Crescent, Harrogate, denied affray and assault on Rigby's brother, Gary. His case was adjourned until June 10.
