REPLACEMENTS for up to 90 trees that are being removed in various areas of Darlington will be a priority, Darlington Borough Council has said.

A scheme to remove and replace diseased and dying trees from the town's streets is in its final stages.

A consultant's survey of the town's tree stock found many to be diseased and in a state of decline, and are, therefore, a risk to the public and property.

About 90 trees have been or are to be removed across the town.

The stumps will be removed and they will be replanted over the next two years.

The following roads are affected: Elton Road will lose eight trees; Carmel Road North and South seven, and Salters Lane South five

McMullen Road, Bates Avenue, Marwood Crescent, Coniscliffe Road, Whinfield Road, Salutation Road, Greenmount Road, Hartford Road and Pierremont Gardens will all lose three trees.
