Chalets alert follows arsons

PARENTS have been urged to keep their children away from derelict chalets on Scarborough's South Bay after a fifth arson attack in six months.

The complex of 18 chalets, which have been unused by holidaymakers for some years, are due to be pulled down, said a tourism department spokesman. He said the area was due for a major redevelopment, including the filling in and landscaping of the South Bay pool complex and demolition of derelict buildings around it. Plans for the scheme are due to go before Scarborough Borough Council in the next few weeks.

ANTIQUES FAIR: An antiques and collectors fair will be held in Danby Village Hall on Monday. Admission is 30p, with all donations going to local charities. Refreshments will be available from supporters of the North Tees Breast Care Fund. A fair held on May 6 raised £100 for the Yatton House Society, Great Ayton, and £230 was donated to the RNLI from the sale of refreshments.

HISTORY TOUR: Northallerton and District Local History Society is touring Wiske Moor on Tuesday, June 11. There will be a charge of £1 for non-members. Those interested should meet at All Saints' Church at 7pm.

CROSSING CLOSURE: Motorists in Northallerton are being warned about the temporary closure of the Boroughbridge Road level crossing. The closure order runs from Sunday to Thursday, although it is expected that work will take place over two nights, starting on Sunday.

Voters go to the polls on June 13 to elect one of three candidates to fill the vacancy left by the death of Councillor Grattan Lockley.
