IT will be just like scores of other street parties held across the region this weekend for the Queen's Jubilee - except for one thing.

All the guests will be stark naked.

Hundreds of nudists from across Britain will descend on a naturism site near Newcastle for the celebrations.

A spokesman for British Naturism, Mike Berridge, said all camping spaces had already been taken up and others had booked into hotels and B&Bs for the organisation's annual rally.

"There will be people coming from across England and Scotland, and sometimes people come from Ireland for the rally," he said. "Really, this is a fun event where naturists from across the country catch up with each other.

"We've already sent the Queen a letter of congratulation and we will be celebrating with a street party.

"If it's cold we'll go inside our marquee but the rain doesn't bother us.

"It's a lot easier to dry your skin than it is your clothes."

North-East naturist John Thompson, of Annfield Plain, County Durham, said the naturist movement was still going strong.

He said: "There are about 2,500 members in the North-East region, which actually takes in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but, of course, there's a lot more people than that who are naturists.

"In Yorkshire there are 200 to 300 people meeting up for events. Country-wide, there are about 25,000 members."

Members of the public are NOT invited to the rally near Frockley in Northumberland this weekend which is for British Naturism members only.

* The sun should come out for the start of the Golden Jubilee weekend, say forecasters, with temperatures of up to 25C (77F). But revellers planning to hold street parties on Monday may not be so lucky as unsettled weather returns.
