Fun of the fair on the way

Organised once again by Yarm District Lions Club, on behalf of Yarm Town Council, the annual Yarm Charity Fair will take place on Sunday, June 9, in Yarm High Street, from 1pm to 4pm. As well as approximately 30 charity stalls, there will be the usual fun of the fair with roundabouts and rides and entertainment. It is hoped that a 16ft D Class lifeboat will make its appearance in the High Street. Councillor Phillip Addison will carry out the official opening at 1pm.Yarm Lions hope that the event will be even better supported than it has been in past years and the worthwhile causes represented will benefit accordingly.

BARBECUE CELEBRATION: Members of the Yarm group of NWR (National Women's Register) will celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee with a barbecue and fancy dress party. The fancy dress must have a red, white and blue theme. The event will be held on the evening of June 4. For details of this and other meetings contact (01642) 781567.

LACE DAY: A lace day will be held at the Egglescliffe Community Centre, Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe, on Saturday, June 8, from 10am to 3.30pm. Bridget Rylands will give a talk with slides at 1.15pm and also give a display of her work. Admission costs £3. Light refreshments will be provided, but those staying for the whole day will need to take a packed lunch.

CHARITY MUSICAL: The Melody Makers trio will perform in aid of cystic fibrosis at the Egglescliffe Community Centre, Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe, on Thursday, June 13, at 7.45pm. Admission costs £1.50, to include tea or coffee. The Melody Makers replace the Synthonia Male Voice Choir, which was originally booked for the event.

ANNIVERSARY PARTY: Members of Worsall Women's Institute marked their 80th anniversary with a party in the village hall. Cleveland Accordionaires provided the entertainment. The group first met in 1922. Ivy Bainbridge, who joined in 1933, was at the event. She is the longest serving member of Worsall WI.

VILLAGE CELEBRATIONS: Worsall village celebrations start on the green at noon on Saturday. Music will be provided by Yarm School's senior string quartet. A bar will be available, which is provided by The Ship. A treasure hunt begins at 12.30pm followed by the fancy dress and decorated wheelbarrows events at 1.05pm and the children's sports at 2.30pm. Other events include welly-throwing, quoits, boules and the greasy pole. A tug-of-war takes place at 4pm. Worsall folk dancers will entertain at 1.45pm and Phil Travis will set up his hot air balloon and give tethered flights over the village. Refreshments and ice creams will be available from 3pm. In the evening, there is a supper dance in the village hall at 7.45pm. Tickets are available from Judith Neasham at the Ship service station.

GARDENS OPEN: The gardens of Worsall Hall will be open on Sunday, June 9, from 2pm to 5pm, in aid of the Red Cross, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Evans.

CRAGSIDE VISIT: Members of Kirklevington Mothers' Un-ion will visit the house and gardens at Cragside, North-umberland, on Thursday, June 6.
