THE world famous White Helmets motorcycle display team will be on hand to entertain visitors to Catterick Garrison's Army open day.

Last year's one-day family show was cancelled because of foot-and-mouth restrictions but organisers say this year's event, on June 22, at Marne barracks promises to be better than ever.

Visitors have the chance to ride on military vehicles and Lynx and Gazelle helicopters will fly in for the day.

Garrison Radio provides commentary and entertainment comes in the form of music from the massed bands of the Corps of the Royal Signals, the band and bugles of the Light Division and the King's Division Waterloo Band.

Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Howard-Vyse, organiser, said: "Naturally it was very disappointing last year that we were unable to go ahead with the open day because of foot-and-mouth.

"This year, however, we are hoping to make up for that loss and make it a special day, particularly as it will also mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee."

Entry is £5 per car and £1 for pedestrians, children 50p, and the event runs from 10am to 5pm.

Proceeds will go to Army and local charities.
