Marton Community Centre, Middlesbrough's newest community facility, opens this weekend on Cypress Road. The open day takes place from 11am until 2pm tomorrow. There will be a number of stalls.

DIABETES TALK: Endocrinologist Dr Vince Connolly and a team from the diabetes care centre will be giving a speech to the South Cleveland Diabetes Care group at the North Riding Infirmary on Tuesday at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

Creche scheme: Hartlepool Borough Council has received a planning application from Mandale Commercial Ltd to change the use of a retail unit at Navigation Point, on the town's Marina into a creche.

Surprise donation: Staff at Hartburn Lodge children's home, in Stockton, would like to say thank you after receiving a recent surprise donation. Workers from the Nelson Platform of Enterprise Oil Plc have completed activities including walks and playing bingo to raise funds for the lodge and raised £250.

ADVANCED MOVES: Hartlepool Advanced Motorists are offering drivers the chance to enrol on an Advanced Driving course, which includes a copy of the driving manual Pass Your Advanced Driving Test, theory sessions and on-road guidance. Feeling peaky: KeyFleets vehicle management company, of Stockton, has donated a minibus to Middlesbrough's social services to help raise cash for the Butterwick Hospice, Teesside. Psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and occupational therapists used it to get to the Three Peaks - Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside - where they walked 25 miles in eight hours, raising more than £500.
