Worthington Durham County CIU Summer League

Fishburn A retained their top spot in the First Division when they only dropped one point to the visiting Shotton Palms.

The home side took the first four frames through Brian Quest, John Griffin, Charlie Hirst and Wayne Oliver before Paul Hickman saved the whitewash.

Old Shildon took four points from a tough match at Wheatley Hill A to move two points behind Fishburn A. Michael Pratt with a 38 break, Billy Goggins and Steven Bennett put Old Shildon ahead before Dean Bryden scored for the Hill. Jossie Aldworth completed Old Shildon's success.

Brandon joined Wheatley Hill A two points behind Old Shildon after they made an odd point home win over Newton Aycliffe. Grahm Jackson, Brian Graham and Kevin sample won for the home side with Bill Barrigan and Richie Young replying.

Witton Gilbert went two ahead on their trip to Willington when Ian Renwick and John Rooney senior won. However Stan Bennett and Tom Parkin equalised. In the decider Willington's Arthur Goldsborough beat Michael Vicary, who was making his return to the Witton team after an absence of many years.

Ian Fawcett and Neil Spender took points for Ferryhill on their visit to Spennymoor A, but the home side's victory came from wins by Karl Welsh, Paul Atkinson and Paul Biddle.

Crook Belle Vue are the early leaders of the Second Division with a two points advantage over Durham City after they beat the visiting Langley Park by the odd point. The Park took the first and last frames through the Coates brothers, Stephen and Ray but Crook went to victory with wins from Arnold Fleming, Derek Potts and John Warriner.

Durham City came out on top by the odd point when they entertained Spennymoor B. The home side's winners were John Davies, Michael pratt and Gary Ward, whilst Wayne Parry and Kevin Riley scored for the Moors.

Meadowfield made their third consecutive odd point victory when they played catch-up throughout their home game against Fishburn B. Winston Hodgson put the visitors ahead with Glen Morton, who was making his debut, levelling. Dave Wilson restored the Fishburn lead only to see John Jackson equalise. In the decider Meadowfield's Norman Smith beat Alan Wilson to move a point behind Durham City.

Wheatley Hill B produced their best win of the season when they only dropped one point at Stanley Central, who had Walter Cornell as their only point scorer. The Hill had wins from Ken Johnson, Terry Ellison, Stephen Cave and Jock Frost.

Newhouse beat the visiting Sherburn Village by three points but the match was much closer than the score suggests. Scott Mallaburn took the only point for Sherburn, whilst Newhouse had a clear cut win from Steve Mountain and three black ball successes from Ian Dinsdale, Jimmy Hassen and John Maddox.

Wingate made themselves hot favourites for the Third Division title after they won the top of the table clash at New Durham for the loss of only one point. Geoff Howe, Dave Hammond, Jim Hennessey and John Bourne won for Wingate with Tony Thompson scoring for new Durham. This result moved Wingate four points ahead of New Durham.

Crowtrees moved in one point behind New Durham after they only dropped one point at Hunwick. Michael Phillips marked his debut for Crowtrees with a win and was joined with wins from Sonny Hann, Sean Johnston and Keith McLauchlan. Neville Blenkinsopp saved the whitewash when he took the final frame.

Tow Law joined Crowtrees in equal third spot after they only dropped one point to the visiting Leeholme B. The Lawyers had wins from Heppell Hodgson, Doug Watson, Tommy Williams and Charlie Donaghy before John Taylor kept up his unbeaten run by taking the final frame for Leeholme B.

Coundon visited Leeholme A and went behind when Anthony Forster and Barry Shaw won. The visitors equalised with wins from Dennis Payne and Malcolm Ryder. In the decider, Leeholme's Lawrence Jones beat Willy Shoulder.

Darlington Riley's whitewashed the visiting Bishop Auckland Gents A to move up to share the top of the Second Division with Darlington Snooker Club B, who beat their B team by two points. Bishop Auckland Cricket Club and Old Shildon both moved within two points of the leaders.

Harrogate Hill are still one point ahead of Hopetown, who they were due to play but no result was sent in. Darlington Snooker A share the second place with Hopetown with Darlington Railway Institute moving two points behind.
