A SAILOR who died in the Falklands War was remembered on the 20th anniversary of the conflict last Friday.
John Caddy, from Dormanstown, was acting chief weapons engineer on board HMS Coventry during the conflict in the South Atlantic.
He was one of 19 sailors killed during the afternoon of May 25, 1982, the destroyer received two direct hits from Argentinian missiles.
Mr Caddy was remembered when the anniversary of the Argentinian surrender at Port Stanley was commemorated at Redcar's Garden of Remembrance.
Ex-Royal Navy sailor Bob Hodgson, from Eaglesciffe, near Stockton, opened the ceremony and former Royal Marine Dave Gowland laid a wreath on behalf of the Royal British Legion.
About a dozen standard bearers from service organisations also paid their respects
