A TALE of family loyalty and affection set against the backdrop of small town life in the US is the latest production by the Sedgefield Players.

Adult members of the theatre group, in partnership with their counterparts in the youth section (Spys), are staging the Louisa M Alcott classic Little Women.

The role of Marmee is taken by Sarah Atkinson, a mother-of-two from Trimdon Village, who said: "I am thrilled to be performing the role of stage mother to four such talented Spys members, all of whom have won awards and medals for their acting."

Kimberley Workman, 17, plays Meg. Alex Tate, at 13 the youngest member of the cast, will be joined on stage by her grandmother Dorothy as the family housekeeper. The quartet is completed by Alice Patterson as Beth and Laura Jones as tomboy Jo.

The play will be staged in Sedgefield Parish Hall from next Thursday to Saturday, at 7.30pm each night. Tickets are available at Selections in Sedgefield, or on (01740) 620091.
